GREENCAL AND GREENDOL LIME

THE DEFINITION AND CAUSES OF SOIL ACIDITY.

Acidic soils are defined as any soil that has a pH of less than 7.0 (neutral) acidity. Acidity in soils can be attributed to high Hydrogen, (H+) ion concentrations in the soil. If the H+ concentration is high in the soil it will result in lower soil pH values. Common sources of acidity can be contributed to Hydrogen (H+) that are released when high levels of Aluminium (Al3+) in the soil react with water molecules. However various other factors that contribute to soil acidity and low pH values over a period of time include; leaching, erosion, and crop uptake of basic cations such as (Calcium, Ca2+; Magnesium, Mg2+; Potassium, K+), decay of plant residues, plant root exudates, fertilizers, and animal manure.
Soil acidity is one of the most important environmental factors affecting crop growth, yield, profitability, and sustainable farming. Excessive acidity is measured by determining the soil pH, which is a measure of the amount of Hydrogen ions in the soil solution. Increased acidity in soils will result in decreased soil pH values. Therefore, Miserator brings to the farmer a world-class liming solution with visible and cost-effective results in the shortest period maximising yields and soil health. With measurable changes in the first few weeks after application.

WHAT IS THE COMPOSITION OF GREENCAL AND GREENDOL LIMES?

The micro-fine lime composition of GreenCal and GreenDol consists of calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate.

Thus making it a very competitive and alternative liming option as to the traditional Ag-lime and granular lime sources. GreenCal and GreenDol’s total neutralizing power expressed as “Calcium Cation Exchange” (C.C.E.) at 100% and “Equivalent Calcium Cations” (E.C.C.) also at 100% makes these two products the perfect solution in liming. Other micro-fine trace elements such as iron, manganese, copper, zinc, and boron are also available for plant uptake.

By applying the GreenCal, GreenDol range on the soil as per soil recommendation the “application method” of the micro-fine lime will ensure ultimate coverage and soil penetration due to fineness, and the uniform distribution and neutralization of low pH values in acidic soils. The micro-fine lime is able to be transported through the soil by water, to ensure excellent distribution of the product with healthy root forming. GreenCal and GreenDol are used on agricultural soils to correct low pH soils with critical macro and trace elements in more than half the time that as is required by traditional Ag lime sources. This is due to the fineness of the two products and the presence of Ca and Mg oxides with faster neutralizing capabilities in lowering the Hydrogen (H+) concentrations in the soils. This gives our farmers the edge of a quicker neutralizing option in a shorter time span after application.

GreenCal and GreenDol and other adjuvants which are utilized in the products are also registered as a GROUP 2 FERTILIZER with “B” numbers at the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of South Africa and adheres to ACT NO. 36 OF 1947. These products also have a SABS specification that must be complied to. This ensures that consistent quality calcitic and dolomitic liming products are supplied to our customers and that our clients’ needs and reassurances are guaranteed.

WHY “GREENCAL AND GREENDOL”?

Except for using micro-fine liming products, the need arose from the Agricultural community that carbon incorporation into agricultural products had to be addressed. The fact that carbon was lost, due to reduced input of plant and animal residues, soil decomposition, erosion, and certain soil types that cannot stimulate carbon accumulation.

For these reasons, we saw the need to incorporate Carbon into our blends that contains modified calcium Lignosulphonate, and complex carbohydrates with wood sugar acids. Carbon elements will then be available to the soil and microbial flora with essential raw materials to produce active soil organic matter.

By incorporating this world-class quality carbon product into our lime, we promote a sustainable “green natural” way of increased soil, plant health, and performance in our crops.
